Insitutions and Day to Day Operations

This post is about Institutions and the Day to Day operations needed in any institution that will require any operations that a librarian might help out. Did you know that there are many different type of specialities within library science? Did you know that library science itself is an institution besides just a random word people come up with. Though according to the recent Florida State Department's Census 2006 of Orange County Libraries, only 14% of the employees in that district have a Masters in Library of Science. Why is this important to know? It doesn't mean the system is broken, it could mean the program is vigorous. It could mean the degree is hard. And with the degree, and individual can haggle on their pay grade. For in Orange County Florida, the average wage for a librarian is 34,500.00. That is teacher's salary. The library institution is under funded in it self. From the daily operations needing to take place, they do not take top priority in the scheme of the budget from the state. That is why many librarians do other things within librarianship then that of just public libraries. There is more money. But should money matter in a job? I had to think on that for I'm doing my next assignment and I'm finding all kinds of data that supports that in my belief that the system under pays the individuals they need the most.

The day to day operations are the low down of any job and that takes place in a library. These are the areas that a librarian must look after in their daily job: Collection Volume, Electronic Books, Electronic Databases, Print Serials, electronic Serials, Audio Volumes, and Video Volumes for the general public. That is just some of the daily check outs of material and maintaince of material needed for any library system today.

Feel free to add to the list of day to day operations that you might encounter in a institution in library science. List some institutions you think about, and lets start a discussion on this subject.

thanks
Arielle
